The Yojimbo's Track Cats program is the only program of it's kind in the City of Chicago. Directing services to youth aged 14-18 years of age who reside within the Chicago city limits, the program supports anyone with a desire to experience track racing or being part of a team.
Although the sport of track racing flourishes in other areas of the country and around the world where velodromes exist, only a handful of Chicago youth are involved. Yojimbo's Track Cats aims to change that by offering a rich athletic program that removes barriers to entry by providing everything needed to participate - including equipment, transportation and skills training.
What we offer:
Exposure to a new and exciting sport
Weekly practices and coaching sessions on bike handling, race tactics, fitness, etc
Team bikes and equipment provided
Transportation to races and events
Race entry fees for those who display financial need
Program oversight by dedicated individuals with great experience in youth racing and program development
A supportive team made up of others who share a passion for cycling
Looking to the future:
While the main focus is on long-term enjoyment of the sport, Yojimbo's Track Cats also encourages youth to pursue the many unique paths that excellence in sport can afford – from earning State Championship titles and college scholarships to National Championship titles and representing the US National Team at international events. Anything is possible.
Chicago's historic nomination as a finalist for the 2016 Summer Olympics places new emphasis on the development of local athletes. Indeed, youth between the ages of 10-18 are at a pivotal age where their interest and participation in Olympic events must be nurtured now, as they will be the ones competing in 2016. To have a local athlete on the podium is every host city's ultimate dream and the Yojimbo's Track Cats intend for lay the local foundation for the ten Olympic events in bicycle track racing.
